Vishesh Jaimala-2 Presented by Shankar-Jaikishan on Vividh Bharati

Shankar presented Jaimala twice; this is the translation of Program-2

Shankar's namaskaar to Fauji brothers! On getting the opportunity of playing few songs for you, I am in a strange dilemma. During the last 25-30 years, Shankar-Jaikishan have composed so many tunes for your service that while selecting few songs out of them, I am in a fix – which one to leave, which one to remember! There is a pile of records in front of me. Each song has sweet memories attached to it! Past days are emerging in front of the eyes like a film. The first scene emerges when me, Jaikishan, Shailendra, Hasrat Jaipuri, Mukesh and Raj Kapoor are sitting in R.K.Studio and there is a rain of songs.

And then as if the film reel gets broken. When lights are on, I see Shailendra is not there, Jaikishan has gone far away and those still there seem like too distant. With every sigh, I am compelled to think…..
Song: Jaane kahaan gaye wo din….. (Mera Naam Joker)

Those gone never come back, only their memories linger on. Jaikishan was not only my partner, he was my brother, my soul mate. We were incomplete without each other. This is why even today I have not separated Jay from me. Even today there are two harmoniums kept on the diwaan. When the old friends appear distant, I Feel as if Jai is saying, ‘Shankar bhai! Losing the heart won’t get you anywhere. You keep on smiling and marching ahead.’
Song: Zindagi ek safar hai suhana….. (Andaz)

Now the song I am going to play for you is from my very dear friend Shailendra’s film Teesri Kasam. Shailendra never feared speaking the truth and calling a spade a spade. We used to have lot of altercations about the lyrics of any song but as soon as it used to get recorded, there used to be the same sweetness between us. He was a very simple person with pure heart, he hated lie because he believed in reaching God.
Song: Sajan re jhooth mat bolo…..

When the time came to record the first song of film Barsaat, Raj Kapoor saheb gave us full liberty to get it sung from the female singer of our choice. We all were new, so we thought why not give chance to a new singer! And that singer is world renowned today. Yes, Lata Mangeshkar. It is not possible to praise her through words. Listen to this song.
Song: Rasik balma….. (Chori-Chori)

Now I will tell you about my two friends. Producer-Director of film Do Jhooth - Sohanlal Kanwar and lyricist – Vitthalbhai Patel. Vitthalbhai is a poet not only through writing but also by heart. He takes others’ sorrows to himself. Vitthalbhai is a fan of Shailendra and the effect of Shailendra is quite apparent on his work. You would agree with me after listening to this song of film Do Jhooth.
Song: Chalo bhool jaayein jahaan ko…..

Now I would play a song from Sohanlal Kanwar's film Sanyasi. Sohanlal is a genius film maker. He not only does excellent work himself but also extracts good work from others. This song has been written by Vishweshwar Sharma and sung by Lata Mangeshkar & Mukesh. Mukesh, another dear friend, who was unmatched for sad songs. But he is in totally different colour in this song.
Song: Chal sanyasi mandir mein…..

Fauji brothers, during our journey in film world, we have seen a lot of composers rising and falling. But there is one composer who songs have always been successful – O.P.Naiyar. Listen to this song, movie Praan Jaaye Par Vachan Na Jaaye.
Song: Chain se humko kabhi

Though everybody likes to be praised, but it is so pleasing when some person, of whom you are a big fan, praises you. And that person is S.D.Burman. Once Burman dada returned from Russia and told me, ‘You have started such rain from Barsaat that people are still getting drenched in it. I went to Russia where your songs are being played in every noon and corner.’ My joy knew no bounds after listening to this. Listen to one song from the film Guide with music by Burman dada. Tributes to him from my side!
Song: Kaanton se kheench ke ye aanchal…..

Very little time is left but I have so much to speak which it is not going to end. Today, talking to you, I am feeling like talking to the nation. You are guarding the borders of the seven coloured civilization of this country. We are on the fronts at our home so that we can return something good to this society. Before leaving, let us welcome this awareness and prosperity!
Song: Hotho pe sachchai rehti hai….. (Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai)
